One day left until I shoot the largest tournament of my life!
I have been involved with archery for 25+ years (ouch!) but until about 12 years ago, never competed in anything other than club leagues and mostly local 3D.
I truly had no idea of what was out there. I wasn't on social media and not on youtube much so did not have the resources available today. Back then, if you didn't know someone that competed. You probably never knew archery was a serious sport.
But I loved it anyway.
My daughter Kaitlyn started wanting to shoot with me. So we got her some lessons at Archery Addictions back when they had the Walnut port location. The told us about JOAD.
Hmmmmmm.
At one point we eventually started our own club and I became certified to coach.
This story has been told many times so I'll cut to the chase.
By the time I started seriously competing, I was already late 30s. And being a mechanic most of my adult life, I am a bit worse for wear.... Lol
I had big goals back in October.
And my plans are not working out so well. I currently am shooting worse scores than I have in 2 months. And my bow arm shoulder just has not the necessary stability.
My options
Surgery
Quit
Or accept and continue doing the best I can
There is another option.
I can switch to left hand again, which I did when the crushed neck disc was found to be my shoulder issue.
I spent a year shooting left handed.
My scores were about 15% lower. But I was able to compete.
Traction and therapy enable me to shoot right handed again.
But it just isn't coming back as well as I hoped.
So here I am.
The classic starts for me tomorrow
660 round and I can't seem to break out of the 600s
BUT!!!!!!
This weekend. I will compete with friends and family, Pro archers and kids. All ages and experience levels.
Many of these people have kept me up and positive in some dark times.
So though I am tempering my expectations, I am excited.
3 days of non stop archery Fun!
Competition, friends, family and food!
I love tournaments and snacking!
Stop by and say hi when you see us!
Best of luck to all. Some dear friends shoot today. And we have high hopes Steve and Ollie make the cut.
Let's do this!
The Classic 2025 is On!
